what is this?
yahoo! groups was a mailing list system and one of the world's largest collections of online discussion boards. many otherkin, therian, and other alterhuman groups organized here. while it closed down in december of 2020, some alterhumans on tumblr were able to archive certain groups, and the files were given to us by aestherians so that we could give them a permanent, easily accessible home on the web. they're an important part of our history and i hope they continue to enrich the communities' understanding of ourselves for a long time!
how do i view them?
these files are in the .mbox format, which is used for emails. this means that certain desktop email clients will be able to import and read them. doranwen of the yahoo-geddon project made this tutorial for viewing them in sylpheed. you can also do it in thunderbird (which is my preference, personally).

also, i feel that there may yet still be groups hidden in the internet archive's massive collection. i've potentially got a post coming on how we might be able to comb it for more. watch this space!
